Compliments for your mom
Specific gratitude beats generic gratitude. 18 compliments that reference real moments, not just love in general.
Compliments for moms are easy to feel and hard to write. The relationship is so foundational that words feel small. The trick: get specific. Generic gratitude doesn't move her. References to actual things she did — moments she might not even know you remember — do.
Below: 18 compliments for your mom, grouped by occasion and depth.

How to deliver these
- In writing, not over the phone. A text or a card lets her re-read it. A phone call she'll forget by Thursday.
- Specifically reference a thing she did. Generic gratitude is fine; specific gratitude is medicine. "Thanks for everything" vs "I still think about how you [specific thing]." Same words, different weight.
- Random Tuesday over Mother's Day. Mother's Day compliments are scripted. Tuesday compliments are real. (See Mother's Day compliments for when the holiday rolls around.)
- Don't wait until something bad happens to say the thing. Funeral-only gratitude is the worst kind. Beat it to the punch.
The under-used compliment
"I tell people about you" is one of the most disarming compliments you can give a parent. It signals you're proud of them, not just grateful. Most parents have never been told this. Try it.
